Check out Animal Crossing: New Horizons New Year’s celebration 2021 Guide

After Toy Day, Animal Crossing: New Horizons players can turn their attention to the final event of the month of December: New Year's Eve. The Nintendo game's end-of-year celebration differs from previous events in that it lacks its own NPC and special activities for players to fulfill. Near Year's Eve, on the other hand, brings a long list of exclusive, seasonal ACNH items for players to gather. It's also the one day of the year when Resident Services is closed, giving Isabelle and Tom Nook a chance to relax before the big Countdown party. Here's how to play Animal Crossing: New Horizons' New Year's event.

How to get New Year's items

Players can purchase a few New Year's Eve items from the seasonal section of Nook Shopping from now until December 31. They're all non-edible furniture food items, but they allow gamers to see traditional New Year's dishes from around the world.

The Twelve-Grape Dish, for example, is inspired by the Spanish tradition of eating 12 grapes at midnight on December 31. Meanwhile, Olivier Salad is a popular New Year's Eve dish in Russia.

Here are the New Year's Eve items available in Nook Shopping and their prices:

 • Berliner – 1,200 Bells

 • Olivier Salad – 1,000 Bells

 • New Year's Noodles – 1,300 Bells

 • Sparkling Cider – 1,000 Bells

 • Twelve-Grape Dish – 1,200 Bells

Players can also get a selection of New Year's Day items from now until January 5, 2022. Again, these are primarily classic dishes. To commemorate the Year of the Tiger, there are things such as the 2022 balloon arch and the Zodiac Tiger Figurine.

Here are the New Year's Day items available in Nook Shopping:

 • Kagamimochi – 1,800 Bells

 • New Year's Shimekazari – 2,000 Bells

 • Osechi – 5,000 Bells

 • Zodiac Tiger Figurine – 1,600 Bells

 • 2022 Celebratory Arch – 2,022 Bells

 • Yut Nori – 1,300 Bells

 • Kadomatsu – 2,580 Bells

 • Otoshidama Envelope – 500 Bells

New Year's event date

Resident Services will close for the day on December 31 at 5 a.m. local time. Outside the building, Tom Nook and Isabelle will build a huge countdown clock that will count down the minutes until midnight. Players cannot utilize the recycling bin, the ABD, Tom Nook's services, or Isabelle's services when Resident Services is closed.

Free light sticks and party poppers will be distributed by Isabelle and Tom Nook. Players can also buy a New Year's Hat or a New Year's Silk Hat from Nook, albeit only one hat style per island will be available. This design is available in a variety of colors. More party poppers will be available for purchase at Nook.

What to do on New Year's Eve

The party officially starts at 11 p.m. local time. Animals will congregate in front of Resident Services to await the arrival of midnight. Everyone gets their light sticks, sparkling ciders, and party poppers ready when it's only one minute to midnight. Finally, when the clock strikes midnight, the entire island comes together to herald in the new year, making for a fantastic photo opportunity.

From midnight until 2 a.m., players can watch a fireworks extravaganza. Furthermore, animal villagers will stay to talk about the New Year's celebration.
